We started over again :(

Hello reader,

We did not like the progress we had so far, and we also did not like the game and theme.  So we decided to make "DAE battle royal MMORPG single-player experience".

SIKE April fools haha, why would we start over again?  We like our game and we have put already put a lot of work into it. So let’s get right into it.

What have we been working on the past week?

------------------------- PROGRAMMERS-------------------------

 Too Fat

I removed the possibility for the player to jump because it wasn’t needed and we wanted something else to take that place. The player can sprint now (so maybe he is not fat at all J). When sprinting the player loses stamina, if he walks normally he does not lose stamina. This gives the player a choice between going faster and losing stamina or walking normally and keeping his stamina.

End screen

In the previous builds, the game just restarted when you reached the end, even when Jannis implemented an early end screen where the team could see the score, it was still a bit confusing. Jannis worked on an end scene, which gives detailed information on how they did. With the end screen being a whole new scene and not a little button, the player now when the game is finished.

Bird strike

Yes, the bird strike disaster got changed a bit. But not the bird itself but the box you can throw at it. Last week you were able to hit a bird even when you were looking in the opposite direction. This was of course not “realistic”. This week I implemented a max angle that prevents the player from throwing the box at the bird.

Tutorial level

For new players the game was hard to understand, we as veterans in our own game know all the tricks. But for new players, it is not that clear. That’s why we decided a tutorial level would be a good choice. I started working on that, right now it is a single-player “mode” and it does not explain everything yet.

------------------------- ARTISTS -------------------------

UI elements

Yano, our UI artists on duty. made some UI elements this week.

Health representation (UI)

The health representation was a UI element that was there from the start, meaning it looked off and it needed a make-over.

End screen (UI)

The first iteration of our new end screen.

Main menu buttons (UI)

In game tutorial box (UI)

Loose cargo elements

Yano worked on some 3D models for the cargo mechanics, which we scrapped for now, but we can possibly still use these models.

Background

Jasper worked on the background this week.

The focus for next week?

- Adding sound effects

- Working on tutorial level

- more props

- Character selection screen
